At Every Level Trust & Boundary-Building Strategies for Leaders

The relationships leaders build with their teams directly impact the way those team members treat and support the young people in their care.

In this session, Dr. Brooklyn Raney guides leaders in reflecting on the example they set—intentionally or not—when it comes to trust, boundaries, and care.

Grounded in her research and work with schools across the country, this keynote empowers leaders to shape relational cultures that are healthy, sustainable, and aligned with the mission of the school.

We all want to show up for the young people in our lives—but how do we do that without losing ourselves? In this talk, Dr. Raney explores the four care modes—Challenging, Cheerleading, Comforting, and Coaching—and the potential shadow sides of each when it is overused or misapplied.
Participants will gain clarity on how to offer care that supports youth while protecting their own energy and impact.
Research shows that the strongest protective factor for a young person is a trusting relationship with at least one caring adult in the spaces where they spend the most time. In this session, Dr. Raney equips educators and mentors with the practical strategies they need to become that trusted adult—without sacrificing personal boundaries or well-being. Interactive and tool-rich, this session is designed to energize, empower, and unite teams of caring adults.

Youth today face real and rising challenges—but one protective factor consistently cuts through the noise: having at least one trusted adult. In this inspiring keynote, Dr. Brooklyn Raney makes a compelling case for connection, sharing stories, research, and real-world examples that remind us why our role in the lives of youth matters.

Participants leave with renewed motivation to be that “somebody”—and to help build a culture where every young person has more than one caring and trusted adult in their corner.

You’re doing important work—but it’s also exhausting. In this honest and affirming session, Dr. Raney names what so many adults are feeling: fatigue, emotional overload, and a creeping loss of self. Through humor, research, and actionable strategies, she offers a framework for reclaiming energy, strengthening boundaries, and finding purpose again—both individually and in community with other adults.
